About Courtney Dowdell (she/her/hers)
LCAT, RDT/BCT, CEDS
I bring a thoughtful, relational presence to the therapy room and a deep respect for each person’s story. I approach therapy with curiosity, warmth, and a deep interest in the experiences that shape how you move through the world.
I received my graduate degree from New York University and am a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Registered Drama Therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience. I am also a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS), with specialized training in the treatment of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns.
Over the years, I have worked closely with multidisciplinary treatment teams to support individuals in recovery and to develop thoughtful, individualized treatment plans. I have also led educational workshops on eating disorders and body image. In addition to this specialization, I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life and career transitions. I offer in-person therapy in New York City and virtual sessions throughout New York State.
My approach to therapy is relational and psychodynamic, often held within a creative and experiential frame. I believe therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and better understand the experiences and relationships that shape your life. Together, we explore these patterns with curiosity and care, strengthening your sense of self and supporting meaningful change.
In the therapy room, I engage wholeheartedly in the work. I meet you where you are and offer a steady, attuned presence as we navigate what feels difficult, what feels possible, and what it might mean to move forward in a way that feels more authentic and supportive.
